Some people choose to be depressed rather than deceive themselves. They fully embrace the risk of being stigmatized rather than seek cheap respect. Society portrays them, however, as having ‘personal, psychological problems’ and prescribes a good dose of self-discipline and a positive worldview. It is as if saying, “Why suffer? Just comply.” In fact, what is deeply disturbing is a society that does not know how to empathize; what is truly optimistic is the fact that there are some people, if not many, who dare to speak up while bearing the burden of feeling down.
